Residents invited to apply for historic preservation commission

MUSCATINE, Iowa – The City of Muscatine is seeking residents to serve on the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC). This appointment offers community members an opportunity to support the preservation of Muscatine’s historic character and contribute to the stewardship of sites, structures, and districts that reflect the city’s cultural and architectural heritage.

The Historic Preservation Commission works to safeguard Muscatine’s historic, aesthetic, and cultural heritage. Commissioners assist in identifying, evaluating, and preserving properties of historical significance and help ensure that Muscatine’s architectural legacy is protected for future generations.

The commission meets at 5:15 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at Muscatine City Hall. Members serve five-year terms, with eligibility for up to two full terms.

Residents interested in serving on the Historic Preservation Commission are invited to submit an application. Forms are available online in the Boards & Commissions section of the City of Muscatine website at www.muscatineiowa.gov, or in person at Muscatine City Hall.

Selection procedure

Applications are reviewed by the Nominating Committee, which includes the Mayor of Muscatine, two City Council members, and the City Administrator or a designated staff representative. The committee evaluates qualifications and potential conflicts of interest before forwarding recommended candidates to the City Council for formal appointment.
