MUSCATINE, Iowa - The City of Muscatine is proud to recognize MuscaBus Driver Appreciation Day on Friday, June 26, honoring the dedicated transit professionals who keep the community connected every single day. This annual celebration highlights the essential role MuscaBus drivers play in ensuring safe, reliable, and accessible transportation for residents across Muscatine.
“MuscaBus drivers embody the spirit of public service in Muscatine,” said Mayor Brad Bark. “Their dedication ensures that every resident — no matter their age, ability, or destination — has access to safe, reliable transportation. Today, we proudly recognize their commitment to keeping our community connected.”
MuscaBus drivers are often the first point of contact for riders beginning their day and the last friendly face they see on their way home. They navigate busy streets, changing weather, and diverse passenger needs with professionalism and care. Whether assisting riders with mobility challenges, helping students get to school, or supporting workers commuting across town, MuscaBus drivers serve as a vital link in the city’s daily rhythm.

In 2025 alone, MuscaBus provided thousands of rides across fixed routes, paratransit services, and on-demand transportation — each one made possible by the commitment of its drivers.
City officials emphasized the importance of recognizing the individuals behind the wheel.
“MuscaBus drivers are the backbone of our transit system,” said City Administrator Matt Mardesen. “Their dedication ensures that residents can access jobs, healthcare, education, and essential services. They do far more than drive — they support the well-being and independence of our entire community.”
Residents are encouraged to join in the celebration throughout the day. Simple gestures can go a long way in showing appreciation:
- Offer a heartfelt thank you when boarding or exiting the bus
- Share a note or card of appreciation
- Post messages on social media using #MuscaBusAppreciation
- Ride MuscaBus and support the drivers who support the community
Local businesses and organizations are also invited to participate by displaying appreciation messages or offering small tokens of gratitude.
MuscaBus continues to invest in training, safety, and service improvements to support both drivers and riders. Driver Appreciation Day serves as a reminder of the human element behind public transit — professionals who show up every day to keep Muscatine connected.
“Public transit is about people,” said Transit Supervisor Amy Fortenbacher. “Our drivers care deeply about the community, and we’re proud to celebrate their service.”
