ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The 2026 season came to a close Wednesday night for Augustana College women's soccer (5-8-4, 0-6-2) as they welcomed North Central College (14-0-1, 7-0-1). Augie was not able to handle the top-seeded CCIW team as the Cardinals shut out the Vikings, 3-0.
Inside the box score
Sara Schinker closed out her senior season with a season-high 14 saves.
How it happened
First half
Augustana challenged the North Central keeper early when Cole saw her shot saved at 6:11. Then the Cardinals' offense took over. At 11:51, they saw a shot ring off the crossbar before Schinker made saves at 15:48 and 18:02. North Central finally broke through at 18:39, however, beating Schinker to take a 1-0 lead.
After a Mowry shot missed wide right, the Cardinals put more pressure on the Augie defense. This led to a trio of saves by Schinker between 25:25 and 39:01. The North Central barrage continued into the final minutes of the half. Schinker made three consecutive saves starting at 41:52, but that was not enough as the Cardinals added another score at 43:40 to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Second half
The first shot on goal of the half once again belonged to Augie when Mowry's attempt was stopped 2:30 into the half. This was followed up by three quick shots on goal by the Cardinals, all of which were saved by Schinker. The Viking goalie added another save to her total at 62:40, but North Central responded with their third goal of the game.
North Central challenged Schinker once more in the remainder of the game, leading to one more save. Once the buzzer sounded, North Central sealed their 3-0 win over Augustana.
With the 2026 season now in the rearview mirror, Augie women's soccer finishes the year with a record of 5-8-4 while going 0-6-2 in conference play.
