ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - After collecting their first win of the season this past week, Augustana College men's soccer (2-1-1, 0-0-0) was back in action on Tuesday as they played host to Monmouth College (0-6-0, 0-0-0). While defense was prevalent throughout, the Vikings managed to score the only goal of the game and walk away with a 1-0 win over the Scots.

Monmouth got off to an aggressive start, putting up three shots in the opening 7:09, but two of those missed while the third was saved by Banke. Fostiropoulos responded almost immediately with a shot of his own that could not find its way to the goal.

Out of halftime, Augie came close to scoring the opening goal when Monmouth's keeper made consecutive saves within two seconds of each other. But the Vikings were finally able to break through at 58:51 when Donaghey potted the opening goal to give the home squad a 1-0 lead.
Following a missed shot at 72:45, Augustana was inches away from an insurance score when Caleb Kale hit the crossbar following up on a Fostiropoulos rebound. And, after three yellow cards were issued between 75:25 and 77:17, Monmouth fired off two shots, the latter of which was saved by Banke.
In the closing stages of the game, Monmouth threw everything they had at Augustana, with a last-minute header just missing the left pipe of the goal. Time expired as Augie set up for the goal kick, securing their 1-0 win.
