Women’s soccer tops NWU 3-1 on Senior Day

Pre-game

Prior to the game, Augustana took time to honor 10 seniors for their time and dedication to the program: Schinker, Paige Bingen, Alyssa Mowry, Giorgia Felicita, Ximena Osorio-Rodriguez, Caelan Cole, Jordyn Swanson, Allison Gibeau, Lena Lembcke, and Mary Pietras.

First half

Once the game started, neither team wasted time putting on offensive pressure. Skylar Swanson missed the net on a shot at 3:28 before NWU had a shot saved six minutes later. After missing another shot at 11:55, Skylar Swanson connected on her third attempt to put the Vikings up 1-0 thanks to an assist from Abigail Gavigan at 14:06.

Just 90 seconds later, Kristen Getz doubled Augie's lead after finishing off an assist from Osorio-Rodriguez. Nebraska Wesleyan tried to cut the deficit at 18:47, but Schinker made a save to keep them scoreless. A flurry of Augustana shots came at 20:31, but only one of their four attempts reached the goal and it was saved.

At 25:05, Skylar Swanson struck again for her second goal to put the Vikings on top 3-0. After that goal, only NWU put the ball on frame for the rest of the half, but Schinker stood tall for another save and sent the game to halftime with Augie up 3-0.

Second half

Nebraska Wesleyan had the momentum to start the back half, but their two shots on goal within the first 17 minutes of the half were both saved. Schinker made a final save on her senior day at 69:14 before being replaced by Lainey Lajoie two minutes later.

NWU challenged Augie's new keeper quickly, with a shot sailing high at 72:07 before they found the back of the net at 74:47 to cut into the Vikings' lead, 3-1. Lajoie made her first save at 81:34, and Augie then challenged Nebraska Wesleyan's goalie one more time before the final buzzer to no avail. With the clock at zero, the scoreboard read 3-1 in favor of Augustana.
