MUSCATINE, Iowa – Runners, walkers, and plenty of summer spirit will take over Muscatine streets this Saturday, August 15, as the 49th annual Watermelon Stampede gets underway.
The event runs from 8 to 10 a.m. Motorists should prepare for temporary delays and increased foot traffic along the race routes. Drivers are urged to use caution, slow down, and remain alert for participants and volunteers.
Both the 5K and 10K races start and finish at the Muscatine Community YMCA (1823 Logan Street).
Traffic advisory
Motorists should expect brief closures, slowed traffic, and controlled intersections as runners and walkers move through the course. To avoid delays, drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during the event window.
Competitors, spectators, and motorists are advised that Logan Street is closed from Climer to Cemetery Lane and Newell Avenue is closed from Maiden Lane to Devitt due to ongoing construction for the West Hill Sanitary and Storm Sewer Separation Project. Please follow all posted traffic-control signs and avoid entering construction zones to ensure everyone’s safety.
