Midwest Iron Addicts gym opens in Colona
Midwest Iron Addicts has opened a new 24/7 fitness and strength-training facility in Colona, expanding the gym's presence into Illinois.
The gym is located at 500 Green Park Ave. Midwest Iron Addicts also operates locations in Walcott and Maquoketa, Iowa.

The Colona facility features a variety of free weights, plate-loaded and pin-loaded machines, and dedicated cardio equipment. The training area includes indoor turf and specialized equipment for bodybuilding, powerlifting and general physical conditioning.
The gym offers local memberships, personal training and custom online coaching.
Staffed hours at the Colona location are 9 a.m.-noon and 3-6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

SinDo Pan Asian Cuisine in Bettendorf closes permanently
SinDo Pan Asian Cuisine has permanently closed in Bettendorf, ending its run less than a year after opening.
The restaurant, located at 1591 Grant St., announced the closure on Facebook Tuesday, Aug. 18.
"It saddens us to announce the permanent closure of Sindo Pan Asian Cuisine," the post read. "We deeply appreciate every member of our community who showed us support during the brief time we were open."
The restaurant also thanked its staff for their hard work and dedication during the past year.
The announcement was signed by Chef Aman Razdan, Chef Simon Razdan and Sous Chef Arion Razdan.
SinDo Pan Asian Cuisine opened in November 2025 and featured Asian-inspired cuisine.

After eight years in the home-remodeling industry, U.S. Army veteran Roderick “Rod” Smock wanted the opportunity to guide customers through every stage of home-improvement projects.
That goal inspired him to open Floor Coverings International, a locally owned business serving Davenport, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Muscatine, and communities throughout Southeast Iowa.
The community is invited to celebrate the grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Muscatine Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at 3465 Mulberry Ave.
Guests can enjoy food, tour the new business, and learn more about the wide range of flooring services they offer.
Smock officially opened the business on July 13.
His business offers customers a mobile showroom brought directly to their home that features thousands of flooring samples and provides a more convenient and personalized way to select and install new flooring.
His background in home remodeling taught him that the quality of the materials and the skill of the installer are equally important.
“I am now able to control the entire process from the first to the last customer interaction and provide world-class customer service with no excuses,” Smock said.
Smock also credits his U.S. Army service with developing the discipline, leadership and dedication that continue to guide his approach to business. He plans to operate the company with integrity, hard work, and a commitment to treating every customer like family.

Critter Kingdom Gift Shop & Pet Boutique opens in Milan
A new local pet supply store and gift shop has opened in Milan, offering supplies, treats and gifts for pets and their owners.
Critter Kingdom Gift Shop & Pet Boutique, located at 651 10th Ave. W., just east of Pizza Joynt, carries specialty pet foods and treats, toys, collars and leashes, grooming supplies and other pet products. The store also offers unique gifts for pet lovers.
The shop is open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. It's closed on Mondays.
