New pop-up party business opens May 1
A new business is “popping” up just in time for Mother’s Day shopping. Curlee Girl Gifts & More, a pop-up party business featuring unique gifts and clothing, is having their first party on Thursday, May 1, from 3-7 p.m. at Crawford Brew Works located at 3659 Devils Glen Road in Bettendorf.
Curlee Girl owner, Gwen Tombergs, is excited to start this new adventure.
“I’ve always admired what the Bling Bling Sisters did years ago with a fun, relaxed shopping experience that had items you can’t buy anywhere else,” Tombergs said. “I also wanted to have pop-up parties in local establishments so it’s a win-win for both of us.”
The event is in the upstairs party room of Crawford Brew Works and Tombergs encouraged attendees to grab a beverage, shop and then stay for dinner. Wine drinkers can bring their own bottle for a $10 corking fee.

Jammerz Roadhouse shifting gears to new ownership
Jammerz Roadhouse, the bar and grill in Hillsdale, is changing ownership. Owner, Christy Geiger Farrow, is retiring and her general manager, Jordane Coers, will be taking the reins. The bar and grill is located at 3729 248th St. N. in Hillsdale.

"I’ve been a bar owner for 31 years now first starting out in Geneseo and my place was named Christy’s," Forrow said. "I bought Jammerz Roadhouse in January of 1999 for $12,750 and put over a $500,000 into the renovation of my business. I turned 60 last year and I thought it was time for me to sell my business to one of my best friends and general managers, Jordane Coers, who has worked for me since she was 21. I sold Christy’s in 2005."
"I will continue to be a customer there and am very excited for Jordan’s new venture. I am also working full time in property management in Port Byron for low income families and elderly. I love my new career path that I have taken after COVID happened and we were closed 11 months out of the 13-14 months of COVID. I started many years ago with the help of my father Lon Geiger. I look forward to retirement from the bar business."
Now till Wednesday, April 30, they will have $1 everything and $6 food baskets. The bar and grill will close at midnight on April 30. They will remain closed for renovations. All items for sale are available after May 1.
Girl + food by cafe fresh Grab & Go meals

Girl + food by cafe fresh is now offering Grab & Go meals. The restaurant is located at 5345 Belle Ave. in Davenport. The Grab & Go meals vary each week. The meals consists of little charcuterie boxes, 1/2 pints of chicken salad and salads. "It's always changing though but plan to have different chicken salads and some form of charcuterie weekly. Cold soups are something we put in there, too," said owner and operator Amanda Bautista."
Grab & go are available during regular hours 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
"Case is stocked and when we run out we run out until the next day. We also have started a meal prep where we put a menu up and you order by 2 p.m. on Saturday for Monday night pick-up between 4:30 & 6 p.m," Bautista said. "We will expand upon this more as time goes on. It’s on our online ordering as “make it simple Monday.”

Moline High School’s renovated welding lab open house
Moline High School will have a ribbon cutting and open house for the renovated welding lab. The high school is located at 3600 Avenue of the Cities. The community is invited to the ribbon cutting and open house on Tuesday, April 29, at 6 p.m. Presentations and tours will be available. Guests are to enter through the main entrance at the high school.

The newly renovated welding lab is a significant investment in the future of students and the community. The "state-of-the-art facility" now boasts an expanded number of welding booths, a cutting-edge robotic welder, and a full suite of new equipment, including welders, a plate roller, and a plasma table. Ventilation and dust collection systems for each booth also have been installed. The upgrades are designed to provide students with real-world, hands-on learning experiences, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful apprenticeships and fulfilling careers in the welding industry.
The renovated lab supports the high school’s welding program career pathway, offering Department of Labor registered apprenticeships. This provides an opportunity for students to earn as they learn, gain certification and college credit, and invest their time in hands-on education and industry training, preparing them for a bright future in the Quad Cities community.
City of Bettendorf, Olympic Steel, American Heart Association ribbon cutting
The City of Bettendorf, in collaboration with Olympic Steel and the American Heart Association, will host a ribbon cutting to unveil artwork at 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 30. The ribbon cutting will be at Jetty Park on the Mississippi Riverfront near the Isle Casino Hotel.
Olympic Steel, the American Heart Association and the City of Bettendorf will unveil artwork celebrating 100 years of building stronger, healthier communities designed by heart attack survivor, Dan Parmentier of Olympic Steel, and brought to life by Davenport’s West High School Industrial Technology students. Speakers representing the City of Bettendorf, Olympic Steel and the American Heart Association will lead us in reflecting on the First Century of saving and improving lives lighting the way to a Second Century of equitable health for all.
Crawford Company Muscatine ribbon cutting
Crawford Company Muscatine held a ribbon cutting on Thursday, April 24, at 913 East 2nd St. in Muscatine.
Mayor and Chamber President Brad Bark, City of Muscatine, and Crawford officials offered comments on Crawford’s expansion into the Muscatine market. Guests learned about Crawford culture and services: heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical and fabrication.
Crawford Company has been serving the Quad Cities market since 1952. Maintaining a commitment to strategic business growth, Crawford identified the opportunity to expand into the Muscatine market. Crawford Muscatine opened its doors in November of 2023 with an office located at 133 West 2nd St. In April of 2024, Crawford moved to its current location and began renovations. The 5,200 sq. ft. facility provides office, shop and inventory space for estimators, project managers, field technicians and administrative support.
