A 1-2-3 finish by seniors Tommy Murray, Landis Musser and Peyton Sand carried the Riverdale High School boys cross country team to an easy victory at the Class 1A Rock Falls Regional on Saturday.

Getting back to full strength after dealing with injury and illness, the Ridgewood girls' cross country squad reached a season's peak two weeks ago by earning their second Lincoln Trail Conference team championship in the last three years. Heading to Seneca for Saturday's IHSA Class 1A regionals, the Spartans hope to continue their ascent and bring home the program's first regional team title.

Returning state champion Noelle Steines of Calamus-Wheatland returned to competition on Thursday at the Jim Hetrick Invitational held at DeWitt's Grace Lutheran Church Camp and won the varsity girls race. North Scott's Nik Davis won on the boys side.

The Mercer County girls' and boys' cross country teams made a clean sweep of the team titles at last season's Lincoln Trail Conference meet. With each squad returning several top runners, the Golden Eagles are hoping for another golden sweep at Thursday's LTC meet at Kewanee's Midland Golf Club.
