Orion vs Mercer County in Class 2A Rockridge Regional baseball championship

Orion senior Dawson Schulenberg was an unanimous first-team selection for the Three Rivers Conference baseball all-conference team.

In addition to capturing a third straight Class 2A regional baseball title, the Orion Chargers achieved another of their goals by winning the Three Rivers Conference's West Division championship.

Finishing with a 19-10 record, Orion also fared well when the TRAC West announced its All-Conference roster recently. The Chargers placed seven of their players on the squad, including four first-team selections.

Of that first-team quartet, senior pitcher Dawson Schulenberg was a unanimous selection. Classmate and fellow mound ace Seth West joined Schulenberg on the first-team pitching staff. A pair of juniors, Christian Grems (infield) and Ben Dunlap (utility), along with freshman outfielder Quinn Hoftender also earned first-team honors.

Riverdale enjoyed a huge resurgence in 2019 under first-year head coach David Gonzalez to finish second in the Three Rivers West at 7-3, a game behind Orion. The Rams in turn were rewarded with three first-team All-Conference honorees out of five selections overall.

Senior pitcher Noah Tackett and his batterymate, junior catcher Jared Griffin, earned the first-team nod as did Jared's younger brother, sophomore infielder Jacob Griffin.

Third-place Sherrard, which finished a game behind Riverdale in the conference standings and also edged two-time defending TRAC West champ Rockridge for the third slot, placed the junior pair of pitcher Nate Olson and outfielder Caleb McWhorter on the first team; the Tigers had five all-league selections overall.

The Rockets, in turn, had four first-teamers out of their five all-league picks, a group led by junior pitcher and unanimous selection Ethan Holbert. Senior outfielder Riley Fetterer and the infield duo of junior Drake Bevans and sophomore T.J. Ulfig also earned first-team kudos.

Morrison and Fulton each had one unanimous first-team honoree, with Mustang senior infielder Ethan Medenblik and Steamer freshman outfielder Drew Dykstra being so honored. Morrison sophomore outfielder John Winkleman also earned first-team kudos.

E-P trio named to TRAC East first squad: Coming off its first 2A regional championship in five years, Three Rivers East runner-up Erie-Prophetstown (17-10) placed three of its top seniors on the division's first team, a group led by senior pitching ace and unanimous pick Jacob Ryan.

Joining Ryan on the TRAC East first squad was classmate and fellow hurler Josh Hammer, with the third Panther senior, infielder Travis Coleman, being likewise honored. Finishing behind Spring Valley Hall in the league standings, E-P had seven players earn All-Conference honors.
