Co-champions of the Lincoln Trail Conference last spring, the Mercer County softball team was unable to keep its place atop the league standings in 2019.

However, the Golden Eagles missed a championship repeat by one game, their 13-3 record putting them behind only Biggsville West Central, and their final overall record of 21-11 set a new single-season team record for victories.

Additionally, Mercer County finished just one win short of its first postseason plaque, falling to eventual Class 2A third-place state finisher Rockridge in the Knoxville Regional title game.

Both the Eagles and the first-place Heat were equally dominant when the LTC announced its All-Conference team, with the two combining for seven of the 10 first-team honorees.

MerCo had three of those first-teamers, with senior pitching ace Dani Hagens and the junior middle-infield duo of second baseman Lillian Hucke and shortstop Maggie Harrison being honored. Altogether, the Golden Eagles had five All-LTC honorees.

Another area standout earning first-team honors was United sophomore pitcher Riley Tyrrell. The Red Storm, plus Annawan-Wethersfield and Ridgewood, had two All-LTC honorees apiece.

All-West Central North: The Monmouth-Roseville baseball and softball teams combined to place three players on the first team of the West Central Conference's all-star squad.

On the baseball diamond, the senior duo of pitcher/infielder Addison Fletcher and catcher J.C. Sells were honored, while junior catcher Biancha Luna from the Titan softball squad was likewise honored.
