The City of Moline and the Moline streets department did an excellent job of providing more places to fish along the banks of the lagoon at Prospect Park. Because of the coronavirus, they had also sprayed white "Xs" every six feet or so to keep a distance between anglers.

Before opening trout season, they also had signs indicating they were going to allow the fishing to go ahead as planned. Thanks again to the City of Moline and the Moline streets department for a job well done.

When capitalism is not working for the people, where do they turn? They need social programs, such as SNAP (food stamps), healthcare and housing programs. Also, public education, Medicare, Social Security and public transportation. All are forms of socialism.

The devil is called the father of lies. It looks like Donald Trump is trying to replace the devil for that title. Since being elected with significant help from his Russian owner, Vladimir Putin, he has racked up more than 20,000 documented false statements, a great many at the "pants on fire" level. These lies actually led to the deaths of many citizens.

It is time for the silent majority to start speaking up. What happened to George Floyd was a tragedy. A protest was justified. Then the anarchists and domestic terrorists took over the protests and are trying to tear apart our country.

The record needs to be set straight. The economic boom created by President Trump is a myth. It actually started long before he was the president of the United States. He didn't create it; he inherited it from President Obama.

Deep faith in God played a major part in the founding of our country. Despite the faults of the founders and corruption in the institutions and systems that have been established in the last 250 years, America has brought more good to the world than any other in history.

Michael Moore, as a guest on MSNBC's show, The Reidout, offered a really good suggestion: a daily briefing from Joe Biden, even if it's only from his basement. However, if I were producing the program, I would place him in front of his bookcase, as a contrast to Donald Trump, who doesn't even own a book, except for that Bible he likes to wave around but hasn't read.

Since when does a Viewpoint column become front page news? I believe this has happened twice recently with John Marx telling us about his disrespect for Governor J.B. Pritzker.

Thousand Currents, the California-based charity that manages fundraising operations for the national arm of Black Lives Matter, includes on its board a convicted terrorist who was pardoned and released from prison by former President Bill Clinton on his last day in office.

No need to rush to in-school learning this school year. Iowa is currently on the wrong track saying classes should convene in classrooms statewide unless they have a special dispensation from Gov. Reynolds. Some Illinois schools are also trying to open halfway, which presents risks given building and staff limitations. More reasonably, Rock Island is starting schools online until Labor Day to better assess the COVID-19 spread before considering attendance in person.
