Letter: Bogus claims

Well it is now official. Republicans have made it easier to buy and carry guns than it is to vote. Their obsession with guns escapes me. There is no evidence that more guns make us safer, just more likely to get shot. I have no problem with the 2nd Amendment, just the misinterpretation of it.

As gun violence continues to spiral upward, it seems idiotic to eliminate all safe guards on gun ownership, background checks, training, etc. No rational argument supports this, only emotional appeals, i.e., "they" want to take away our guns."

The right to vote is another matter. We have always been taught to participate in our democracy by being informed and to exercise our right to vote. Many have fought long and hard for that right, specifically people of color and women. When Republicans realized it was becoming more difficult to win based on their ideas/policies, they decided the path to victory is to limit the access to vote for those who might vote against them.

Using the bogus claim of voter fraud (non-existent) they have introduced legislation in over 40 states to limit the number of polling places, reduce hours, restrict absentee ballots, limit early voting, usurp election control (Georgia), some 200 plus bills in all.

Iowa is one of the first to pile on the band wagon. How progressive of them. This has nothing to do with fraud or election security. It's pure and simple voter suppression. Remember that when you’re standing in a long line to vote.

There's a big outbreak of PTSD in America. We're getting "Pretty Tired of Stupid Democrats" calling Republicans Nazis. Democrats are famous for accusing others of things that they are guilty of, so let's compare Democrats and the Nazis. The Nazis used poison gas to kill millions and performed medical experiments on others. Democrats are guilty of killing over 60 million through abortions and used chemicals to kill many and sold body parts for medical experiments also.

I keep reading "letters to the editor" concerning the January "invasion" of the U.S. Capitol, but I have yet to see an editorial or a letter c…

In response to Fred Ruedy’s “Why Not?” letter to the editor questioning the need for an inquiry into the very real and widely witnessed January attack on our Capitol versus the lack of inquiry into allegations surrounding Hunter Biden’s laptop: Hello! Who died because of Hunter Biden’s laptop? Did his laptop lead to the death of five U.S. citizens? Did his laptop cause physical damage to government property?

The record shows that, with other Republicans, Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst voted against establishing a bipartisan independent investigation into the Jan. 6 assault on our national Capitol and democratic process. It seems odd that both senators would lack curiosity about the truth of who, what and why the Jan. 6 attempt at overturning our presidential election outcome occurred.

Pathetic! Pathetic, lame, and illogical are the reasons Sen. Chuck Grassley uses to oppose a bi-partisan commission to investigate the Trump-incited insurrection on Jan. 6. To equate a treasonous attack on our Capitol, designed to overthrow our government and destroy democracy, with riots associated with otherwise peaceful Black Lives Matter demonstrations is sheer lunacy. They are not equivalent. The latter is causing trouble and needs to be addressed. The former is a blatant attempt to overthrow the duly elected government in order to pay homage to a grudge-carrying former president who continues to espouse the Big Lie that the office was stolen from him.

I answered a phone call and recognized the voice of my granddaughter. She was frantic, telling me about an auto accident she had where she hit another car carrying a pregnant woman. She said she was looking at her phone and the accident was her fault. She's locked up and waiting arraignment. She's crying, and I'm shaking and crying. She has cuts on her face. She manages to give me a phone number of a person who can help and would I please call him. We hung up.

Are you a viable person? Do you have a reasonable chance of surviving? If not, should you be terminated? Would you like to be terminated in 15 weeks or 24 weeks? Oh, is your viability greater than that? Some people are terminated as early as 4-6 weeks. Regardless of a person's age, only the Creator of all things has the right to end a life. To quibble over how many weeks or years old a precious human being should be before he or she can be killed is ridiculous; at any age, it is murder.
