Erika `Erie' Penson

Erika "Erie" Penson, 15, Rock Island, died Tuesday, July 16, 1996, at Little Company of Mary Hospital, Chicago.

Services are 9:30 a.m. today at Olivet Baptist Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Restvale Cemetery, Chicago.

Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time.

A.R. Leak Funeral Home, Kings Chapel, Chicago, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Feb. 23, 1981, in Rock Island.

She was scheduled to be a sophomore at Rock Island High School in the fall. She was an honor-roll student and active in school activities such as the Teacher Minority Incentive Program and tutorial aide program. She had received various certificates and awards.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church where she was involved in the youth choir and attended Sunday school.

Survivors include her parents, Linda Penson, Rock Island, and Eric Henderson Robin Williams of Chicago; a sister, Linda Ann "L.A." Henderson, Chicago; grandparents, Juanita Penson, Rock Island, Thomas and Minrose Henderson, Chicago; and a special friend, Lakeisha Robinson, Rock Island.


Jerry Brown

Jerry Brown, 57, Greeley, Colo., died Friday, July 19, 1996, in Colorado.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Ministries Christian Fellowship, Greeley, where he was an active member. The body will be cremated.

Memorials may be made to Jerry Brown Memorial Fund in care of Stoddard Funeral Home, Greeley.

Mr. Brown was born July 18, 1939, in Moline, the son of Floyd L. and Opal Steeples Brown. He married Jane Keel Sept. 26, 1959.

He was employed by United Building Centers of Greeley.

Survivors include the widow; a daughter and son-in-law, Ronda Sue Brown Huser and her husband, J. Brent Huser, a son, Jason Lee Brown, all of Greeley; grandchildren, Preston and Zachary Huser; brothers, William H. Brown and Leo F. Brown, both of Rock Island, Donald Brown, Milan, and his twin brother and sister-in-law, Barry L. and Sharon Brown, Edgington.


John Allen Jr.

John E. Allen Jr., 68, San Antonio, Texas, formerly of East Moline, died Tuesday, July 9, 1996, at Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital, San Antonio.

Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.

Mr. Allen was born Dec. 1, 1927, in Moline, the son of John Sr. and Esther Allen Hirsch. He married Ann Isaacson Nov. 9, 1952, in Moline.

He had worked at area car dealerships as a salesman before moving to Texas in the early 1970s.

He had been looking forward to attending his 50th class reunion from Moline High School this September.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Allen, Aledo; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Barb Allen, Airway Heights, Wash., and Jim and Sherri Allen, Moline; grandchildren, Justin Allen, Aledo, Sandra Allen, Airway Heights; a stepgranddaughter, Amy McClean, Moline; and a sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Gene Seals, South Bend, Ind. A daughter, Karen, died in 1979.


Joseph Bert

Joseph B. Bert, 73, of 2411 8th St., Silvis, died Thursday, July 18, 1996, at Trinity Medical Center, East Campus, Moline.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where further arrangements are pending.


Gregory Bell

Gregory Garth Bell, 46, Coquille, Ore., died Thursday, July 18, 1996, at home following an extended illness.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Monday at Western Township Cemetery, Orion.

There is no visitation.

Kirk, Huggins and Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion, is handling local arrangements.

Mr. Bell was born Sept. 10, 1949, in Sacramento, Calif., the son of Garth and Enid Godwin Bell.

He attended Merrimac Community College in St. Louis.

He was owner and operator of an antique restoration business in St. Louis and Coquille.

He enjoyed restoring classic cars and refinishing antiques.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Garth and Dottie Bell, Kirkwood, Mo.; a brother, Michael, Coquille; and five nieces and nephews.

Anna Foerder

Anna M. Foerder, 87, Kewanee, died Friday, July 19, 1996, at Kewanee Hospital.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Peter's Evangelical United Church of Christ, Kewanee, where she was a member. Burial is in Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee.

Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to the church.

Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements.

The former Anna Couve was born Dec. 31, 1908, in Annawan Township, Henry County, the daughter of Henry L. and Louise Lempke Couve. She married Leslie "Les" Foerder June 5, 1933, in Kewanee.

She had attended Illinois State Teachers College in Normal and had taught in county schools for many years.

She had been a Sunday school teacher for many years and a member of the Circle of Ruth at the church. She had also belonged to the Henry County Home Extension, the Annawan Women's Club and the Order of the Eastern Star, Kewanee Lodge, where she had been the past worthy matron.

Survivors include the widower; a daughter, Ruth Ann Foerder, Quincy, Mass.; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Shirley Foerder, Annawan; grandchildren, Steve Foerder, Annawan, Lisa Betsworth, East Moline, and Mark Foerder, Landisville, Pa.; and five great-grandchildren.

Alexa Hart

Alexa Renee Hart, infant daughter of Albert Hart and Stacy Foutch of Muscatine, Iowa, died at birth Wednesday, July 17, 1996, at Muscatine General Hospital.

Private family services will be held in Muscatine Memorial Park Babyland.

George M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine, is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include brothers, Nathan Foutch and Auston Hart, both at home; and grandparents, James and Juanita Abbott, Andover, and Ernestine Hart, Kewanee.

Viola Nylen

Viola L. Nylen, 93, formerly of St. Joseph, Mich., died Thursday, July 18, 1996, at her daughter's home in Rock Island, with whome she resided.

Arrangements are pending at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline.

Edith Schmidt

Edith K. Schmidt, 92, of 206 E. Morris, Morrison, died Thursday, July 18, 1996, at Morrison Community Hospital.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Morrison. Burial is in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to Moline American Legion.

The former Edith Dykhuizen was born Feb. 29, 1904, in Morrison, the daughter of Peter and Agnes Japenga Dykhuizen. She married Elmer Bush in 1922. She married Arnold Schmidt in 1945. He died Feb. 28, 1986.

She resided in Moline until moving to Morrison in 1986.

She was a lifetime member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Moline.

She enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Bernita Bush, Morrison; grandchildren, Larry R. Bush and Rodney Bush, both of Morrison, and Carol Stadler, Summerville, S.C.; five great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren. A son, Robert Wm. Bush, is deceased.

Katherine Stuckey

Katherine Runkle Stuckey, 93, rural Altona, died Thursday, July 18, 1996, at Rosewood Care Center.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at United Church of Altona, where she was a member. Burial is in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Altona.

Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the church or Ransom Public Library, Altona.

The former Katherine Runkle was born Nov. 18, 1902, in Littleton, Ill., the daughter of Robert and Cora Horton Runkle. She married George Border Stuckey April 10, 1925, in Galesburg. He died in 1986.

She graduated from Western Academy and Western Illinois University in Macomb.

She taught school for 27 years in and around Altona, retiring in 1971.

She was a member of the Naomi Circle of the church, Rebecca Parke Chapter D.A.R., Knox County Home Extension, Knox County Retired Teachers, honorary member of Knox Lombard Fifty Year Club and Walnut Grove Senior Citizens.

She resided in the Altona area since 1923.

Survivors include daughters and a son-in-law, Richard and Jaimie Stuckey, Schmidt-Batavia, Ill., and Nancy Stuckey Hyzer-Cabo, Pulmo, Mexico; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, George Runkle, Altona. A daughter, Sara Katherine Heule died in 1987.

Paul Stuhlsatz

Paul J. Stuhlsatz, 87, Belleville, Ill., formerly of Kewanee, died Friday, July 19, 1996, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kewanee. Burial is in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kewanee.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cavanagh & Schueneman Funeral Home, Kewanee. A rosary will be recited at 7:30. Memorials may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Belleville, where he was a member.

Mr. Stuhlsatz was born Nov. 7, 1908, in Kewanee, the son of John and Emily Verbeck Stuhlsatz. He married Lenora L. Van Den Berghe. She died in 1987.

He worked for many years in the claims and pricing department at Walworth Valve Co., East St. Louis, Ill.

He was a member of the former St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Kewanee.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and James Wiesen, a son and daughter-in-law, John H. and Linda Stuhlsatz, all of Belleville; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A son, Paul J. Stuhlsatz, is deceased.


Alice Clark

Alice Clark, 40, of 3010 W. 49th St., Davenport, died Friday, July 19, 1996, at home.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial is in Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A memorial fund has been established.

The former Alice Goodwin was born April 15, 1956, in Peoria, the daughter of Richard and Jeannine Wright Goodwin. She married James Richard Clark March 31, 1980, in Rock Island. He died Sept. 2, 1991.

Mrs. Clark was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Rock Island.

She enjoyed the President Riverboat Casino.

Survivors include daughters, Zoni and Naomi Clark, both of Rock Island, Joy and Tabetha Clark, both of Davenport; sons, Jermaine, James L. and Lewis Clark, all of Davenport, and James W. Clark, Rock Island; a granddaughter, Latasha Ann Peterson, Rock Island; her mother, Jeannine Slagle, Davenport; a sister, Stephanie Slagle, Davenport; and a brother, Richard Goodwin, West Palm Beach, Fla.

Eileen Tappendorf Morris

Eileen Tappendorf Morris, 84, Davenport, died Friday, July 19, 1996, at Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home, Davenport.
