Marjorie Snyder

Marjorie E. Snyder, 205 W. B St., Alpha, will be honored Aug. 15 at a reception in observance of her 80th birthday.

The former Marjorie McNeil was born Aug. 8, 1918, in Sherrard. She was married to Leslie C. Snyder on Feb. 17, 1936, in Rock Island, He died Oct. 8, 1992.

Her children are Marion Snyder, Woodhull, and Sharon Karenke, Lynn Center. A daughter, Mary Jean Simmons, is deceased. There are two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Marjorie Klavohn

Marjorie Klavohn, 415 E. Wells St., Geneseo, will be honored Aug. 15 at a reception in observance of her 80th birthday.

The former Marjorie Sturm was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Geneseo. She was married to Robert Y. Klavohn, Geneseo, on Feb. 15, 1939, in the home of her parents in Geneseo. He died Jan. 13, 1987.

Her children and spouses are Jerry and Virginia Klavohn, Geneseo; Donald Klavohn, also of Geneseo, and Ronald and Riffann Klavohn, Bolingbrook. There are 17 grandchildren.

Mrs. Klavohn was employed for 30 years at Hornsby's and McNamara's Variety Store, Geneseo, where she was a sales clerk and bookkeeper, retiring in 1982.

She belongs to the First Baptist Church, Geneseo, where she has held membership for 55 years. She also was a Sunday School teacher for 23 years, and also was children's choir leader.

Ruth Leatherman

Ruth Leatherman, 2423 22nd Ave., Rock Island, will celebrate her 95th birthday during a family reunion on Aug. 15.

The former Ruth Paradise was born Aug. 15, 1903, in Boone, Iowa. She was residing in Barnes City, Iowa, when she was married to Earl Leatherman of New Sharon, Iowa, on Dec. 31, 1924, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He is deceased.

Her children are Warren, Lamont, William and Lawrence Leatherman, all of Rock Island. There are 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Leatherman was employed as a clerk at Modern Woodman of America, Rock Island, retiring in 1968.

She is a member of Memorial Christian Church, Rock Island.

Vernita Roady

Vernita Roady, 624 Warren St., Colona, will be honored Aug. 16 at a reception in observance of her 75th birthday.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Silvis, where the honoree holds membership.

The former Vernita Cloninger was born Aug. 16, 1923, in Nebo. She was married to Nathaniel A. Roady on April 8, 1940, in Bowling Green, Mo. He died Dec. 7, 1976.

She is the mother of Jean Prescott, Silvis; Carol Hollis, Colona; Art Roady, Geneseo, and Roger Roady, Moline. There are nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. One grandchild and one great-grandchild are deceased.

Mrs. Roady owned and operated a beauty shop in her home, retiring in 1974.

Harry McMillin

Harry McMillin Jr., East Moline, will be honored at a family dinner to celebrate his 75th birthday.

Mr. McMillin was born Aug. 28, 1923, in East Moline.

He married the former Delores Theis on Sept. 7, 1942, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline.

They have a daughter, Cathy Lester, and three grandchildren.

Mr. McMillin was employed at Illini Hospital, Silvis, retiring in 1984 as chief engineer.

The couple belong to St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline.

Kenneth Raithel

Kenneth L. Raithel, Rock Island, will observe his 80th birthday on Aug. 17. He will be honored at a family dinner to celebrate the event.

The honoree was born Aug. 17, 1918, in Rock Island.

He retired in 1976 from employment with the Rock Island Post Office and the Bettendorf Post Office.

Mr. Raithel belongs to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island.

Viking and Linnea Skarp

Viking and Linnea Skarp, 1217 W. 4th St., Milan, will observe their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 12. They will be honored at a family dinner to clebrate the event.

The former Linnea Berg and Mr. Skarp were married Aug. 12, 1938, in the parsonage of the Second Christian Church, Davenport.

Mr. Skarp was a painter and decorator with Pearson Decorating Co., Moline, retiring in 1974.

Mrs. Skarp was operator and agency manager for Illinois Bell Telephone Co., Milan, for 10 years, and was supervisor of telephone control at Moline Public Hospital for 26 years, retiring in 1983.

The couple belong to the First Presbyterian Church, Milan.

Joseph and Barbara Roels

Joseph P. and Barbara Roels, 560 29th Ave., East Moline, will be honored Aug. 16 at a reception in observance of their 50th wedding anniversay.

Mr. Roels was employed for 32 years at John Deere Administrative Center, Moline, where he was a payroll tax administrator, retiring in 1982.

Mr. Stevenson has been employed for 36 years at John Deere Plow and Planter Works, Moline, where he was a buyer. He retired in May of 1977. Mrs. Stevenson retired in May of 1991 after 22 years employment as a sales clerk at Elliott Camera Shop, Moline.

Ralph and Stella Almblade, 1856 18th St. A, Moline, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 16.

There are 12 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Mr. Almblade was employed by Moline Forge and retired from John Deere Harvester Works after 26 years. He also is a World War II veteran, having served in the Air Force for three years. Mrs. Almblade was employed in the family business, DeKeere's Food Store, and retired in 1962.

Mr. Jostand was employed with Union Local 309, Teamsters 371. He retired in 1992 as a laborer with Goetz Construction Co.

Mr. Frank was employed by Dohrn Transfer Co., Rock Island, until 1980. He then was employed by Ray's Tap, Geneseo, and drove a truck for the Admiral Corp., Galesburg, and Adrian Carriers, Milan, retiring in 1996. Mrs. Frank was employed at Ben Franklin in Geneseo.

James and Mayetta Smith

James and Mayetta Smith, 25515 Ridge Road, Colona, will be honored Aug. 15 at a reception in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Smith retired in 1985 after 29 1/2 years employment at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, where he was an assembler. He also retired in 1983 after 25 years of farming.

Mr. March was employed for 34 years by American Air Filter, where he was an inspector, retiring in 1984. Mrs. March retired in 1996 after 20 years employment with the Visiting Nurse and Homemaker Association, where she was office manager.

Mr. Hynd has been employed for 47 years by Reynolds Manufacturing, Milan, where he is a toolmaker. Mrs. Hynd serves as a volunteer.

Christine Louise Paulsen, Davenport, became the bride of Scott Michael Verfaillie, rural Eldridge, Iowa, on April 25 in Old St. Anne Catholic Church, Long Grove, Iowa. Judge Mike Woods officiated at the 2 p.m. ceremony.

Parents of the bride are Dennis and Linda Paulsen, 4711 Sheridan St., Davenport, and the bridegroom is the son of Judy Verfaillie, 1504 40th St., Rock Island, and Mike Verfaillie, 1718 9th Ave., Moline.

Honor attendants were Pamela Osterhaus and Mike Verfaillie.

Other attendants were Michelle Case, Sara Marti, Lisa Hendriks, Kyle Paulsen, Cameron Carothers, Robert Brewer, David Case and Christopher Rini.

There was a reception at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. The honeymoon destination was Disney World, Orlando, Fla., and the couple reside in rural Eldridge.

VanOsdol-Perry

Debra Lynn VanOsdol and Guy Winfield Perry, both of Davenport, were married May 23 in the Bettendorf Presbyterian Church.

Parents of the bride are Robert and Donna VanOsdol, Morrison, and the bridegroom is the son of Earl and Patricia Perry, Essexville, Mich.
