Walter C. Schulte, 900 Crosstown Ave., Apt. 207, Silvis, will be honored at a family dinner May 7 in observance of his 85th birthday. He and his wife Joanna also will be celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary.
Mr. Schulte was born May 7, 1915, in East Moline. He married Joanna Van Thorre, East Moline, on May 9, 1939, in St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline.
Their children are Steven Schulte, San Pedro, Belize, Central America; Sharon Jones, Westwego, La.; Simone Andon, East Moline, and Sheryl Schulte, Yorktown Heights, N.Y. There are six grandchildren and six great-grandchldren.
Mr. owned Schulte Lawn and Garden Center, formerly Van Thorre Hardware, retiring in 1978. He presently is a volunteer at Illini Hospital, Silvis.
He is a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Rapids City.

The former Bernice Claussen was born May 4, 1920, in Scott County Iowa. She was residing in Eldridge, Iowa, when she was married to Harold H. Meyer of Davenport, on Dec. 15, 1938, in Davenport. He died in July of 1992.
She has six sons, Duane, DeWitt, Iowa; Eugene, Blue Grass, Iowa; Ronald, Eldridge; Jerry, Davenport; Kenneth, Andalusia, and Jim, Bettendorf, and a daughter, Lynn Roman, Prophetstown. There are 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Meyer is a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, Davenport.
Paul J. Boyles, 2156 Ridge Road, Reynolds, was honored Friday at a family dinner in celebration of his 80th birthday.
Mr. Boyles was born April 28, 1920, in Preemption Township. He married Louise Murry on Feb. 7, 1934, in Ottawa, Ill. She is deceased.
His children are Paul Boyles Jr., Lawrence ``Larry'' Boyles and Kathee Seiver. A daughter, Rita Jackson is deceased. There are six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Boyles farmed in Perrytown Township.
He is a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Aledo.
Kathryn ``Kaye'' Duncan, 1220 47th Ave., East Moline, was honored April 15 at a family dinner at Homestead Restaurant, Woodhull, in observance of her 80th birthday.
The former Kathryn Thatcher was born April 13, 1920, in Kewanee. She was married to Robert Duncan on May 1, 1942, in Moline.
Her children and spouses are Sharon and Bill Wagoner, Swedona, and Tom and Randee Duncan, Moline. There are four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She retired as a legal secretary for John Sandholm, attorney. She previously was a teller at the State Bank of Orion for 10 years, and a secretary at the Moline Water Department.
She is a member of the First Baptist Church, Moline.
Oma Shappard, 1318 172nd St. N., East Moline, will be honored May 6 at a family dinner in celebration of her 80th birthday.
The former Oma Neely was born May 6, 1920, in Stahl, Mo. She was married to Clyde True in 1941 in Missouri. She later was married Carl Wren in 1946 in East Moline.
Her children and spouses are Marvin and Linda Wren, and Orland and Juli Wren, all of Moline; Allan and Sue Wren, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Carl Wren Jr., East Moline. There are nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was married to Earl Shappard in 1971. He died in 1994.
She has four stepchildren, Sandy Laboy, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Bruce and Tammy Shappard, Davenport; Deb and James Griffith, Van Buren, Ark., and Brent and Nancy Shappard, East Moline. There are 16 stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Mrs. Shappard was employed at the East Moline State Hospital, retiring in 1974.
She is a member of Silvis Heights Baptist Church.

The former Eleanor Stafford was born May 3, 1920, in Geneseo. She was residing in Silvis when she was married to Myrl Adams of Rapids City, on Nov. 18, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He died May 13, 1986.

Mr. Rowe was a crane director for the Rock Island Lines, Silvis Shops, for 34 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1975.
Mrs. Rowe worked in the scheduling department of Montgomery Elevator Co., Moline, for 12 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1978.

Mr. Allison was employed for 35 years by John Deere Plow and Planter Works, Moline, where he was a quality analyst. He retired in 1984. Mrs. Allison retired in 1987 after 25 years at the Rock Island Arsenal where she was a computer specialist.

Mr. Sharpe retired in March of 1980 from the Rock Island Lines Railroad. Mrs. Sharpe retired from the Harvest Day Bakery, Rock Island, in October of 1979.
