Honoring a legend

Francine Bellson places flowers at the headstone of her late husband, jazz drumming great Louie Bellson, Thursday afternoon during a headstone dedication ceremony at Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Dan Qualls officiated. Josh Duffee, a local professional musician and drum instructor, and drummer Tom Rogiewicz of Prophetstown took turns performing on a 1930's field snare drum during the ceremony. Rogiewicz played in the Rockford symphony for 36 years and was the one whom Bellson had set up his drum kit when he performed locally.
