EAST MOLINE — United Township High School has announced that Matt Wright has been selected as its new principal.

Mr. Wright will succeed Carl Johnson, who has been named superintendent at the Colona School District.

For the past six years, Mr. Wright has been the dean of students at East Peoria High School. Prior to that, he taught math in the Morton school district.

Mr. Wright earned a bachelor's degree in math and language arts education from Bradley University in Peoria and his master's degree in educational technology and school leadership as well as his Education Specialist degree from Illinois State University in Normal.

UT Superintendent Jay Morrow said he looks forward to Mr. Wright joining the district, saying his leadership will make the district stronger.

The United Township School Board approved Mr. Wright's selection at Monday's meeting. He will join the district on July 1.

Mr. Wright and his wife have three children.
