ROCK ISLAND — Several Rock Island High School students were honored at Senior Recognition Night at the end of May for receiving scholarships.

Some received scholarships and awards from outside organizations, and others received "in-house" scholarships that were announced at the ceremony. They included MarCeisha Jackson, Donald Wright Memorial Scholarship; Amber Haskill, Joyce E. Mirr Education Scholarship; Vicente Villalpando, Rock Island Optometric; Emily Jansen, Thode Family Scholarship; Charles Murphy, Thode Family Scholarship; Cobie Conger, Theresa Meincke Memorial Scholarship; and Emily Jansen, Lappin Family Scholarship.

Jackson was awarded the plaque for winning the Donald Wright Memorial Scholarship during the girls track team banquet at the end of May. The scholarship was created in honor of Donald Wright, a 1968 Rock Island graduate who served in the Vietnam War before succumbing to cancer from Agent Orange exposure.

The $5,000 scholarship is given annually to a Rock Island senior track athlete.
