Quad City Arts gives out community impact awards

Quad City Arts presented its Lloyd Schoeneman Community Impact Awards at its annual meeting this week. The awards, given annually, recognize exceptional leaders in the arts community, according to the nonprofit group

.

Following is a list of this year's winners, along with comments from Quad City Arts:

Arts educator: Dr. Art Tate, superintendent of Davenport schools, for his exceptional support of arts education in the Davenport School District, including the Creative Arts Academy, artsBASICS and the new Central High School Performing Arts Center.

Outstanding artist (visual arts): Pat Bereskin, Bereskin Gallery, for her many years serving as a mentor to and teacher of her fellow artists, and for the creation of her multi-function gallery space in the Bucktown Center for the Arts.

Outstanding artist (performing arts): Aaron Randolph III, playwright, for his many highly successful original plays and musicals, performed locally at Davenport Junior Theatre, the QC Theatre Workshop, St. Ambrose University and Augustana College.

Arts supporter (business): Becky Schneider, Bill’s Moving and Storage, for her considerable efforts in support of Festival of Trees, including the growth of Children’s World and the North Pole.

Arts supporter (individual): Lora Adams, WQPT and local theaters, for her tireless and boundless volunteer work in support of theater and arts groups throughout the Quad-Cities.

The late Lloyd Schoeneman joined the Quad City Arts Council in 1978 and was a driving force for art and artists in the community, according to a council news release. He died in 2001 at the age of 52.
