Meet the attendants for the 2016 Mardi Gras Ball

The Junior Board of Rock Island has named 12 attendants for its 77th annual Mardi Gras Ball, which will take place Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at the Quad-Cities Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf.

This year's theme is Love Gives Us a Fairy Tale. Tickets to the ball, which include dinner and dancing, are $95 per person. To make reservations, visit the website at jbri.org or contact Beth Behrends at 309-912-5966.

Following is the list of attendants for the ball, with a summary of their accomplishments.

Lucy Su Berry, daughter of Sue and the late Michael Berry, attends Alleman High School, Rock Island, where she is on the honor roll and is a John O’Connor Scholar. She is on the principal’s list and has received faculty recognition in five subjects. Lucy was an Alleman football cheerleader, a student ambassador, and a member of SIGMA (Students Against Destructive Decisions). She plans on attending the University of Iowa or Loyola to focus on pre-med.

Lilia Hartman Darrow, daughter of Sara Darrow and Clarence Michael Darrow, attends Alleman High School, where she is a top-10 scholar and member of the Key Club. She is an employee at the Rock Island Public Library and a mentor for Jordan Elementary School’s engineering team. Lilia is on the Alleman tennis team and also a member of Alleman’s Pathfinders. She plans on attending a liberal arts college to pursue a career in education.

Katherine Marie Florence, daughter of Angela and Todd Florence, attends Alleman High School, where she is a John O’Connor Scholar and is on the principal’s list. She is a member and treasurer of National Honor Society and a volunteer at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Hospital. Katherine is an Alleman football cheerleader and a Key Club member, and she was co-chair of the fundraising committee for this year’s Student Hunger Drive. She plans to attend a four-year university, where she will major in health science with a focus on pre-med.

Molly Katherine Fox, daughter of Heather and Jonathon Fox, attends Alleman High School, where she is a member of student council and National Honor Society. She was the morale team captain for the dance marathon and is a student ambassador. Molly is on the Alleman Emeralds Dance Team and cheerleading squad, and she participated in the Student Hunger Drive. She plans to attend Indiana University to study nursing and become a nurse practitioner. 

Abigail Lynn Girot, daughter of Mary Rosa-Gastaldo Girot and Dan Girot, attends Rock Island High School, where she is on the honor roll and is a member of National Honor Society. She is on the student council and is also a student ambassador. Abigail is actively involved in the Student Hunger Drive, the student blood drive, and Teens Encounter Christ. She plans to attend Southern Illinois University or Iowa State University.

Emily Nicole Kirik, daughter of Chris and Steve Kirik, attends Alleman High School, where she is the student council secretary and was the homecoming decorations committee chair. She is a member of Key Club Platinum Division and National Honor Society. Emily participated in the Student Hunger Drive and is a John O’Connor Scholar and on the principal’s list. She is an Alleman cheerleader and a member of the Emeralds Dance Team. 

Alissia Marie Milani, daughter of Brenda and Carlo Milani, attends Alleman High School, where she is a top-10 scholar and a member of National Honor Society. She participated in the Student Hunger Drive and was the committee chair for 2015. Alissia is on the Alleman tennis team, is a member of Key Club, and was the recipient of the Riordan Family Scholarship for 2015. Alissia plans on attending the University of Iowa to become a physician.

Olivia Marie Piehl, daughter of Tiffany and Tom Piehl, attends Moline High School, where she is a member of National Honor Society and committee chairman for Share Joys. She attended the South Dakota Walk on Water mission trip and is a member of Teens Encounter Christ. Olivia was on the 2015 homecoming court and is a member of student congress. Olivia plans to attend the University of Iowa to become a nurse.

Meredith Jane Sanders, daughter of Kristin and Keith Sanders, attends Rock Island High School, where she is a Charles Austin Scholar and a member of National Honor Society. She is a member of the marching band and a student ambassador. Meredith is a member of the Key Club and Diversity Club and was part of the pit orchestra for "Music Man." Meredith plans to attend a four-year university.

Brooke Brianne Sheraden, daughter of Karen and Scott Sheraden, attends Alleman High School, where she is on the principal’s list and a member of National Honor Society. She is a student ambassador and a John O’Connor Scholar. Brooke is on the Alleman cheerleading squad and soccer team, and is the committee chair for the dance marathon. Brooke plans to attend a four-year university and major in nursing or business.

Sara Elaine Stockdale, daughter of Sharyn and David Stockdale, attends Rock Island High School, where she is a student ambassador and a member of National Honor Society. She is in the school orchestra and is a Girl Scout and volunteer program aid. Sara is on the Rock Island High School cross-country, track-and-field and soccer teams, and she was the varsity cross-country team's senior captain. Sara plans on pursuing further education as a student athlete, possibly in the field of psychology.

Hannah Maria Taber, daughter of Maria Bandera-Taber and Brandan Taber, attends Rock Island High School, where she is a member of the Debate Blub. She is a member of the youth group at Trinity Lutheran and is a council member for L.I.F.E. Hannah is a volunteer at the Milan animal shelter and also volunteered in New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy. Hannah plans to pursue a career in marine biology.
