WHAT WE KNOW: Geneseo received a $116,000 grant from the Department of Natural Resources for a bike path linking the city with the Hennepin Canal at Lodge Park in Country Manor in 2016.

WHAT'S NEW: Aldermen learned Tuesday, to their dismay, the new estimate for the work is $216,246 rather than $145,000. After discussion, Mayor Kathy Carroll-Duda said she might like to find out if any other sources of money might be forthcoming. "Unless they can come up with other money it's not going to happen on our part is what I'm hearing," she said of her fellow council members. Interim city administrator Dawn Tubbs said if Geneseo decides not to use the grant, the city will be blacklisted and won't receive any more DNR funding for two years. Inflation and a DNR requirement for a 12-foot culvert rather than 10-foot led to the cost increase, and original estimates were likely low. "We hurried up and applied for a grant that we should have gotten better numbers on," said public works superintendent Chad VanDeWoestyne.

WHAT'S NEXT: Aldermen voted to exercise the option to buy 35 to 40 acres from Hazelwood Development for the Geneseo Industrial Park addition and following a closed session, voted to spend $17,150 with IMEG for preliminary design work at the industrial park.
