A Rock Island man and five teenagers were arrested Wednesday night after they fled from a stolen car police believe was involved in an earlier shots fired incident.
At 10:54 p.m. Wednesday, Davenport police were chasing a stolen 2016 Subaru XV Crosstrek near West 14th Street and Myrtle Street, according to arrest affidavits, and went north on Harrison against one-way traffic.
Davenport Police Cpl. Brandon Koepke used an intervention technique, to crash the stolen vehicle on the corner of East Central Park Avenue and Iowa Street.
Five people ran while a sixth person was taken into custody, police say.
A Springfield XD handgun was located back seat, according to arrest affidavits.
Preston Manning McDowell Jr., 19, ran from the back driver’s side, but was taken into custody. He had 3.05 grams of marijuana in a bag in his pocket.
The stolen vehicle was believed to be involved in a shots fired incident, according to arrest affidavits. Davenport Police Maj. Jeff Bladel said it was not related to the earlier incident when a 17-year-old girl was shot in the leg, a non-life-threatening wound.
McDowell was charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony, interference with official acts-firearm, a Class D felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, a Class D felony, and possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor.
Bond was set Thursday at $20,000 cash or surety. He will be arraigned May 30.
Five juveniles, who have not been named, face charges of first-degree theft, carrying weapons, and interference with official acts. They are at Scott County Juvenile Detention Center.
