2 named to All-Illinois Academic Team

Black Hawk College students Alexa Mahoney, of Colona, and Seth Vergeyle, of Moline, were selected for the 2019 All-Illinois Academic Team in recognition of their scholarly achievements.

The two were chosen to be the college’s nominees to the All-USA Academic Team. Nominees must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and significant campus and community engagement.

Students nominated to the All-USA Academic Team are named to the All-State Academic Teams.

Native American doc showed at lunch

Documentarian Kelly Rundle will discuss his award-winning film, “Good Earth: Awakening the Silent City,” at a May 16 Black Hawk College Lifelong Learner Lunch.

The 20-minute documentary tells the fascinating and forgotten story of the Blood Run National Historic Landmark as told by a Native American grandfather to his grandchildren. The film is a permanent fixture in the new Good Earth at Blood Run State Park Visitor Center in South Dakota.

May 16 is Q-C campus commencement

The Black Hawk College Quad-Cities Campus Commencement Ceremony will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the TaxSlayer Center, 1201 River Drive, Moline. Tickets are not needed to attend commencement. Parking is free. The facility is handicapped accessible. There will be a sign language interpreter at the ceremony.

Create with clay in evening classes

The beginner class Creations with Clay will introduce students to the basics of working on the potter’s wheel and creating hand-built projects using stoneware clay.
