Ethel Scranton

ALPHA — Ethel M. Scranton, 92, of Alpha, died Thursday, June 13, 2019, in her home. A visitation for Ethel will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Private graveside services will follow in New Windsor Cemetery. Memorials may be left to New Windsor Cemetery Association and condolences can be made online at www.petersonwallinknox.com.

She was born Feb. 25, 1927, in New Windsor, to John R. and Verna Peterson Spivey. She attended the Alpha schools and married Ralph Rice on Feb. 24, 1945 in Tyler, Texas. He died in 1971. Ethel later married Earl E. “Bud” Scranton March 29, 1987 in New Windsor. He died in 2005.

Ethel was a homemaker and of the Presbyterian faith.

She enjoyed bowling, square dancing, playing in various card clubs and living in the country.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane (Mike) Edmund of Lynn Center, Ill.; Carolyn (Tom) Edmund, of Spencer, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Peggy Scranton of Aledo; four grandchildren, Traci (Paul) Greenman of Alpha, Troy (Carla) Edmund of Rogers, Ark., Paul (Michelle) Edmund of Woodhull, Brian (Angie) Edmund of Wataga, Ill.; seven great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Spivey of New Windsor and Lois Spivey of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents; two husbands; one grandson, Todd; one step-daughter, Kathy; and two brothers preceded her in death.
