The Rockridge High School faculty has selected Kadey Garrett — pictured with Rotary Club President Dr. Chester Lien — as the Milan Area Rotary Club Student of the Month for October. Kadey is a senior at Rockridge and is the daughter of Jim and Kehla Garrett of Milan.
Kadey is an honor student at Rockridge who notes her favorite class is calculus. She is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the student council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Crime Prevention Unit. She is a statistician for the football team and plays basketball in the winter. She was a valuable member of the IHSA Class 2A state champion softball team last spring.
Outside of school, Kadey plays ASA softball, runs in local road races, serves as a tutor and volunteers for a variety of charity events. She also umpires softball games at the Green Valley Sports Complex. Her family is a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Milan. In her spare time she likes to stay active and be outside as much as possible and enjoys hiking, running and kayaking.
After high school, Kadey plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa to major in math education. She aspires to become a high school math teacher.
She was honored by the Rockridge CUSD No. 300 Board of Education at its October 15 meeting and by the Milan Area Rotary Club on October 18.
