Organ concert set for Sunday

Organist Dana Robinson will present a free concert at 3 p.m. Feb. 10 at First Lutheran Church, 1230 5th Ave., Moline featuring music by Bach, Mozart, Schumann and others will be played.

Robinson will also give a workshop for local organists at 10 a.m. Feb. 9 at First Lutheran Church. Area church organists are invited to attend.

An organist, teacher and church musician, Robinson is on the faculty of the School of Music at the University of Illinois in Urbana and is organist at Grace Lutheran Church in Champaign. He also has held teaching positions at Central College and Luther College and was organist and choirmaster at Trinity Cathedral in Davenport.

He performs regularly for chapters of the American Guild of Organists and national conventions of the Organ Historical Society and the Westfield Center for Early Keyboard. He also appears in organ duet recitals with Paul Tegels, professor of organ at Pacific Lutheran University. His performance of Bach’s Orgelbüchlein can be heard on the ARSIS label.

Brunch planned Feb. 20 in EM

EAST MOLINE — The Stonecroft Morning Connection is planning "No More Messy" Brunch at 9:15 a.m. Feb. 20 Christ United Methodist Church, 3801 7th St., East Moline.

Featured speaker is Kelly Davis of Moline with "From Mess to Message: How and why people end up deceived and how God can deliver them by His grace." Karen Moore will present how to set a beautiful table and vocalist Shaun Easton of East Moline will provide music.

Davenport church program exploring racism

DAVENPORT — A five-part program “Race: The Power of an Illusion” will begin Feb. 12 at 3707 Eastern Ave., Davenport.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Quad Cities program, at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, is led by the Rev. Jay Wolin who said racism and bias have become systemic in society, leading led to inequity.

“Race the Power of an Illusion,” created by California Newsreel and shown on PBS, explores how race was developed as a social construct, the history of race in America and how race has been used to oppress people. It also explores how and why colorblind policies perpetuate inequities.
