Davenport distributor completing solar array

DAVENPORT -- 7G Distributing, LLC, is completing the installation of a 250-kilowatt solar array atop its new 110,000-square-foot distribution center in Davenport.

The local, family-owned beer distributor moved into its new distribution center on May 7 and distributes Anheuser Busch, Corona, and regional and Iowa craft brands to bars, restaurants, grocery stores and convenience stores in Scott, Muscatine and Cedar counties.

The solar array, covering more than half an acre, will generate enough energy to power 30 homes for a year. The installation will be one of the largest roof-mounted solar arrays on MidAmerican Energy’s grid and one of the largest direct current optimized systems in Eastern Iowa.

The firm estimates the solar array will offset 30-50 percent of its annual energy usage. 7G partnered with BlueSky Solar out of Dubuque for the array, which is set to be commissioned mid-June.
