Freedom Fest honors state’s 150th birthday

Parade grand marshal Leo Oligmueller drove himself around the 2017 parade route in his antique Dodge pickup.

With Independence Day just around the corner, Tekamah Chamber of Commerce has started taking registrations for the city’s annual 4th of July parade.

The theme for this year’s parade is “Independence Day the Tekamah Way.”

A parade entry form is available inside this week’s Plaindealer.

Parade organizers ask that registrations be turned in to Cindy at Chatterbox, Amy at Tekamah Drug, or Cayle at T-H Schools by June 30. Entries also can be mailed to Tekamah Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 231, Tekamah, NE 68061; or e-mailed to tekamahchamber@gmail.com.

As in the past, parade entries can pick up their number at the Plaindealer office starting at 8:30 a.m. on the Fourth. Registration will close at 10 a.m. There is a slight change to the start of the parade route. This year, it will be starting on G Street in front of Gotta Get Some Coffee.

The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. sharp. Judges will be present during the parade and a prize will be given to the most unique float or group that follows this year’s theme.
