ANGELA DEARKING Plus 60 board member Whether you’re an art affiant, appreciate the artistic talent of others, or are just curious about what inspires an artist, wash off the dust and join Plus 60 Club fellow members during the month of September for a variety of art events. On September 12, join us at Quad City Arts, 1715 2nd Ave., downtown Rock Island from 4-6pm, as Lisa Mahar (acrylic paint on canvas and furniture) and Bill Wohlford (wood carving) present their art and inspiration for their work. Complimentary wine reception follows where you will have an opportunity to visit with the artists. No reservation necessary! If you are a Plus 60 Club or Center for Active Seniors (CASI) member artist with an enthusiasm for photography, painting, drawing or three dimension (any media), plan to enter your work at the Plus 60 Art Show September 12 (10am-4pm) or September 13 (10am-noon) at CASI, 1035 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport. You will have the option to just display your work or have it judged by a local professional judge. Then celebrate with fellow Plus 60 and CASI members at the art reception and awards presentation sponsored by the Trust and Wealth Management department of American Bank and Trust Company N.A. on Thursday, September 26 at CASI, 6-8pm. In addition, save the date for the afternoon of Tuesday, September 24, as Plus 60 launches a new Wine and Art Workshop at the Figge Art Museum, Davenport, 2-4pm. Enjoy a studio class paired with a glass of wine, light hors d’oeuvres and socializing. Each class features a different medium, and you’ll take home a finished artwork. Supplies, snacks, and wine are provided. Instruction begins at 2 pm preceded by an optional museum tour at 1:30. Registration fee is $25 (non-refundable) and must be postmarked by September 18th. SHARON BROOKS Plus 60 club president Genesis Health Systems and Quad City Plus 60 invite QCPlus60 members to an upcoming Healthy Habits Over Lunch program, when the local Alternatives for the Older Adult agency, will share the resources they offer Illinois resident seniors on Thursday, October 3, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the Larson Center, 801 Illini Drive, Silvis. Deadline for registration is Wednesday, September 25, 2019. Complimentary box lunches will be provided for all registered Plus60 members. Honoring all veterans To honor all veterans and thank them for their service to our country, Plus 60 Club will host a dance on November 1 at Knights of Columbus Hall, 1111 35th St., Davenport, from 7 to 10 p.m. An honor guard and presentation of colors by North Scott’s High School ROTC will kick off the evening at 7p.m. Then put on your dancing shoes and rock to the music of Gray Wolf, a local Quad-City band noted for their variety of classic rock from Motown to Johnny Cash. All tickets are $10 at the door. Door prizes will be available and a 50/50 raffle will go to support Quad-City non-profit agencies that serve those 55 year of age and older.
