Swedish Butter Crisp

1 cup butter
3/4 cup white sugar
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
TOPPING:
1 egg white
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup chopped pecans

Cream butter and white sugar together. Add egg yolk, vanilla and flour. Mix together until smooth. Spread
this mixture into an ungreased 15-1/2x10-1/2 jelly-roll pan. Spread over entire pan and flatten with hands.
For topping: whip egg white until stiff. Spread white on top and sprinkle with brown sugar and pecans.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cut into squares while still warm
