No-Fail Rolls

Ingredients

1 package dry yeast
1 cup warm water
2 eggs, beaten
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup oil or melted shortening
3-1/2 cups flour

Instructions

Dissolve yeast in warm water. In a large bowl, mix eggs and sugar. Add salt. Add oil. Mix in flour, 1 cup at a time, stirring well. Cover bowl with cloth, let rise until double in size. Punch center to let air out. Form into rolls. Cover and let rise until double in size. Bake at 400 degrees until golden brown, about 10 to 15 minutes. Makes 2 to 3 dozen.

1964 -- 50 years ago: An application has been filed for a state permit to organize a savings and loan association in Moline, it was announced. The applicants are Ben Butterworth, A.B. Lundahl, C. Richard Evans, John Harris, George Crampton and William Getz, all of Moline, Charles Roberts, Rock Island, and Charles Johnson, of Hampton.
1989 -- 25 years ago: Indian summer is quickly disappearing as temperatures slide into the 40s and 50s this week. Last week, highs were in the 80s.
