"This recipe is an old family favorite. It is a great winter meal that has pleased my German family for many years."
-
1 loose head of cabbage
1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper ("I use a little more.")
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup chopped onion or 1 whole medium onion, chopped
1/2 cup uncooked Minute Rice
2 tablespoons ketchup
-
Boil 3 cups of water in a large pan. Core the cabbage and simmer it covered in the pot of boiling water for 15 minutes until the leaves wilt. Remove the cabbage to a plate to cool. Save some of the water.
Combine the meats, seasonings, onion, rice and ketchup. Shape the mixture into at least 12 rolls. ("I usually get 15 rolls."). Separate and choose one cabbage leaf for each roll. Wrap meat in cabbage and secure with toothpick. Place rolls in baking dish. Add some of the cabbage water and cover with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 1-1/2 hours.
