Banana Bread

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter-flavored shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup mashed bananas
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup buttermilk
3/4 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs. Beat in bananas and vanilla. Alternate adding flour and buttermilk. Mix well. Fold in nuts. Pour into two greased 8x4-inch loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 55 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes. Remove from pans to wire rack to cool.

The first celebration will be the Memorial Dayprogram at 10 a.m. May 30, at the Brettun and Black Store Museum on River Road. Therewill be a sesquicentennial display.
