Swiss Steak

Our family likes this tomato mixture on mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

1 round steak, about 1 to 1-1/2 pounds, tenderized
Oil for frying
2 14-ounce cans diced tomatoes
11-ounce can tomato juice
1 onion, diced
1 cup diced celery
1-2 tablespoons sugar
Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Cut steak into serving-sized pieces and brown on both sides in hot oil; salt to taste. Place browned steak in a greased roasting pan. Pour in the tomatoes, tomato juice, onions and celery. Salt and pepper to taste, then sprinkle sugar on top. Cover and bake at 350 degrees F. for 1 hour, or longer, if desired. This also may be baked for several hours at a lower temperature. Serve steak with tomato mixture.
