Stuffed Green Peppers and Topping

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80-90 percent fat)
4 medium or large green peppers
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup regular white rice
1/2 cup chopped onions
1/2 cup chopped celery
1 teaspoon garlic salt
5-6 tablespoons ketchup
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 can (15.25 ounces) whole kernel sweet corn, drained
Topping:
1 can (28 ounces) crushed or diced tomatoes
2 cans (10 3/4 ounces) cream of tomato soup

Instructions

Brown ground beef into small chopped pieces in large skillet or pot. Add all other ingredients and mix throughly. Cut green peepers in halves ( top to bottom ) clean out inside of pepper and carve out stem. Stuff the green pepper halves with ground beef mixture. Place stuffed halves in deep 9-by-13-inch coated or lightly greased pan. Place remaining filling mixture around green peppers in pan. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix tomatoes, including juices, and cream of tomato soup together. Pour over green pepper halves. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 1/2 hours.
