Aunt Madge's Fresh Apple Cake

1-1/2 cups sugar (white or brown)
3 cups apples, chopped
1-1/2 sticks butter or margarine
1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 eggs
2-1/2 cups flour
3/4 cup cold coffee
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
Dash of salt

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and cold coffee and beat together. Add remaining dry ingredients and mix. Stir the apples into the mixture. Topping: Sprinkle with chopped nuts and brown sugar. Bake 40-45 minutes at 350 degrees.
