Swedish Brown Beans

Comment on this recipe

My late mother-in-law used to serve these every Christmas. When I make them they never taste as good as hers. You can find the beans in Galva or Bishop Hill, usually around Christmas.

Ingredients

2 cups brown beans
1/4 teaspoon soda
3 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup vinegar
8 ounces bottled sorgum
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons corn starch

Instructions

Put brown beans and soda in a crockpot. Cover with water and cook on high for about seven hours. When soft, drain and then add cinnamon and vinegar. Cover with water and sorgum and brown sugar. Mix corn starch in water and add to beans to thicken them. Cool and enjoy.
