Mom's Chocolate Fudge

4-1/2 cups sugar
1 can (12 ounces) Pet evaporated milk
1/4 pound butter (1 stick)
2 cups marshmallow creme
3 cups chocolate chips
Chopped nuts if desired


Mix first three ingredients in a large, heavy saucepan. Bring to a full boil for exactly 8 minutes. Remove from heat and add marshmallow creme, chocolate chips and chopped nuts. Stir until well mixed and chips are melted. Pour on a greased jelly roll pan. Allow to cool. Cut in small squares.
