Date Pudding

Our family always enjoys this recipe for the holidays. We have had this recipe since I was a child. Being a Belgian, I am not sure if it originated there or not.

2 cups water
1 tablespoon butter
3/4 cups brown sugar
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup dates, cut up
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup nuts
1/2 cup milk

Boil water, butter and brown sugar for syrup; set aside. Mix remaining ingredients and place in a greased 2-quart bowl. Pour syrup on top. Bake at 350 degrees 45 minutes, or until top is brown.
