Wedding Cake Cookies

1/4 pound margarine
2/3 cups sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
pinch of salt
1 package dates, cut up
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups Rice Krispies
3/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Combine margarine, sugar, egg, salt and dates. Cook for 7-10 minutes until thick. Remove from heat. Add vanilla. Pour in cereal and pecans. Blend well and form into balls. Place on cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Chill for short time.
