Apple Sauce Deluxe

Ingredients

1 package (3 ounces) raspberry or cherry-flavored gelatin
1 cup boiling water
1-1/2 cups (15-ounce jar) applesauce
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Sour cream or mayonnaise, if desired

Instructions

Dissolve gelatin in boiling water. Blend in applesauce and lemon juice. Pour into serving dish or individual molds. Chill until firm. Serve with sour cream or mayonnaise, if desired. Makes about 2-1/2 cups or 4 or 5 servings. May be doubled for larger amount. Note: May substitute 2 cups of cooked and sweetened rhubarb in place of applesauce. Omit lemon juice.

1964 -- 50 years ago: THE ARGUS will be election headquarters for Rock Island County tomorrow night, and the public is invited to watch the operation. The closing of the polls at 6 p.m. will mark the start of open house in the newsroom. Visitors will see staff members receiving, tabulating and posting returns.
1989 -- 25 years ago: Few bricks actually tumbled, but no one seemed to mind as about 1,000 people gathered to celebrate the formal start of demolition at the site of a downtown civic center.
