Water hookup

Illinois

-- East Moline -- Must sign up in person at the water-department office, 915 16th Ave., (309) 752-1530.

-- Milan -- Contact the village clerk, 321 W. 2nd Ave., (309) 787-8500. No deposit required.

-- Moline -- Must sign up in person at the Accounts and Finance Office at the East Annex Building, 1616 6th Ave., (309) 797-0481. For emergencies, call (309) 797-0489. A deposit is required for new customers.

-- Rock Island -- Call City Hall, 1528 3rd Ave., (309) 732-2000.

-- Silvis -- Contact the city clerk, 121 11th St. Deposit required. (309) 792-9181.

Iowa

-- Iowa American Water Co. provides water service to Davenport, Bettendorf, Riverdale, Scott County, Clinton, LeClaire, and Panorama Park; call (866) 641-2108 to start service or for emergency; www.iawater.com.

Gas and electricity

Driver's licenses

Both Iowa and Illinois require new residents to take written driver's tests, vision tests and, in some cases, behind-the-wheel driving tests. Fees vary according to the classification of license being sought.

Illinois -- new residents have 90 days to obtain their new driver's licenses and 30 days to change their license-plate registration. Driver's-license stations are open 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 8 a.m.-noon Saturdays.

Iowa -- new residents with a valid out-of-state license must obtain an Iowa license upon establishing residency.

The driver's-license station for Scott County is at 2162 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport, (563) 386-1050. The office is closed Sundays and Mondays; 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays; 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
