iWireless Center 20th: Part I

The 1989 demolition of the former John Deere Plow Works marked the symbolic start of the Quad-Cities renaissance. In 1993 The Mark of Quad Cities' rose from the rubble and has been the epicenter of entertainment for the region ever since. Follow the construction of the civic center in this visual timeline spanning from the demolition to Neil Diamond's opening night concert.

In honor of the iWi's 20th anniversary we combed through our photo archives, and beyond, to build this video. Magic to Monster Trucks: 20 years of memorable moments. The iWireless Center has a rich history of entertainment apart from the musical acts which have performed in the building. The iWi has been the sight of numerous championship celebrations and historic winning streaks. The building has also been host to scores of Olympic champions in addition to NBA champions, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus and the Harlem Globetrotters. Ever since the grand opening in 1993 the iWireless Center has been the epicenter of entertainment for the Quad-Cities area.

Easter vandal destroys Sacred Heart statue

The statue of Jesus Christ in front of Sacred Heart Church, on 5th Avenue in Rock Island, lays face down on Monday April 1, 2013 after it was vandalized at 9:21 p.m. Sunday. Rock Island police are currently reviewing security camera footage that shows a lone vandal knocking over the statue and then walking away.

Frozen Turkeys Falling from the Sky
As part of a Thanksgiving eve party put on by Rock 104-9's Dave and Darren show, frozen turkeys were thrown from a helicopter onto squares marked on the field at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport on Wednesday evening, Nov. 26.

1988 -- 25 years ago: Hampton's sesquicentennial committee and the Hampton HistoricalSociety have scheduled a full slate of activities, which will be held throughout the year, to celebrate the village's 150th birthday. The first celebration will be the Memorial Dayprogram at 10 a.m. May 30, at the Brettun and Black Store Museum on River Road. Therewill be a sesquicentennial display.
