Event:      Officer appreciation dinner

The Quad Cities Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial will host an officer appreciation dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center, 400 S. 16th Ave., Eldridge. The event is to show gratitude for officers who serve their community, and to recognize those who gave their lives in the line of duty. Adult menu includes ribeye steak, baked potato, green beans, salad, sweet rolls, cookies, pop, and beer. Kids' menu includes hot dog, macaroni and cheese, cookies, and drink. There also will be a video presentation, silent auction, raffles, and merchandise for sale. Tickets are $20 ($15 before April 24); $5 for children. Proceeds will go toward upkeep of the memorial site and the memorial squad car, and support for families of fallen officers. Call 563-326-8748 for details.

1964 -- 50 years ago: One of the biggest horse shows of the season was held yesterday at Hillandale Arena on Knoxville Road under the sponsorship of the Illowa Horsemen's Club.
1989 -- 25 years ago: Davenport is like a gigantic carnival this weekend with the Bix Arts Fest taking over 12 square blocks of the downtown area. A festive atmosphere prevailed Friday as thousands of people turned out to sample what the Arts Fest has to offer.
