Date: Thursday, December 6, 2012 Kathy Carey will present D.A.R.: Let's Take a Look at the Rock Island Arsenal Historical Society meeting at the Arsenal Island Golf Course Clubhouse, 1838 Gillispie St., Arsenal Island. Dinner is at 6 p.m. Menu includes filet of salmon with cucumber and tomato, coleslaw, rice pilaf, green bean almandine, and dessert. A photo ID is required to enter the island. Use the Rock Island gate after 5:30 p.m.; the Davenport gate will be closed. Cost is $14 for dinner; attend the program only at 7 p.m. for free. 1963 -- 50 years ago: Miss Patrice Daly, Rock Island, a senior at Rock Island HighSchool, won second place in the recent state public speaking contest held in Peoria underthe auspices of the Knights of Pythias.
1988 -- 25 years ago: Hampton's sesquicentennial committee and the Hampton HistoricalSociety have scheduled a full slate of activities, which will be held throughout the year, to celebrate the village's 150th birthday. The first celebration will be the Memorial Dayprogram at 10 a.m. May 30, at the Brettun and Black Store Museum on River Road. Therewill be a sesquicentennial display.
