NOTICE TO BIDDERS
The Rock Island Housing Authority will receive sealed bids for Rock Island Townhomes Re-Bid.
Bids will be received until 2:00 p.m. local time on the 29th day of April, 2014 at the Rock Island Housing Authority, located at 227 21st Street, Rock Island County, Illinois 61201. At
that time and place all bids will be publicly opened and read aloud.
A pre-bid meeting shall take place on the 10th day, of April, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Rock
Island Housing Authority, located at 227 21st Street, Rock Island County, Illinois 61201.
After going over the scope of work a visit to the site will occur.
Bid packets may be obtained at the office of Tyson and Billy Architects, P.C., located at 4000 Morsay Dr., Rockford, Illinois 61107. Bid packets will be available April 7, 2014.
A deposit of $50 (in the form of cash or check) per set is required and bidders will be limited to (3) sets. Deposits will be refunded upon return of the Bidding Documents in good condition, without markings, notations or other defacing, within (5) days after bid opening. Contractors that do not submit a bid will not be refunded their deposit. Checks should be made payable to Tyson and Billy Architects, P.C. If it is desired for bid packets to
be shipped to bidder, a separate non-refundable check shall be made payable to Tyson and Billy Architects, P.C. in the amount of $25 or a valid UPS or FedEx account number shall be provided.
Bids received must be enclosed in a sealed envelope and clearly marked “Rock Island Townhomes Re-Bid".
A Certified Check or Bank Draft payable to the Rock Island Housing Authority, U.S. Government Bonds, or a satisfactory Bid Bond executed by the bidder and acceptable sureties in an amount of not less than 5% of the base bid shall be submitted with each bid.
Failure to submit an acceptable bid bond with the bid will result in the rejection of the bid.
Attention is called to the provisions for Equal Employment Opportunity and payment of not less than the minimum salaries and wages set forth in the bid documents.
All Contractors who are awarded construction related contracts must document Affirmative Action to ensure Equal Opportunity in Employment. This documentation is subject to review by the Regional Office of the Department of Labor. As a part of normal contract administration, the Rock Island Housing Authority is responsible for determining the Contractor's compliance with the Equal Employment Opportunity Clause and Affirmative Action Requirements as well as the Contractor's performance in executing thoserequirements.
All MBE/DBE/WBE Contractors, Subcontractors and Suppliers are encouraged to participateon Rock Island Housing Authority projects.
The Rock Island Housing Authority reserves the right to accept or reject any and all bids
and to waive any and all technicalities.

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a public hearing will be held by the County Board of The County of Mercer, Illinois (the “County”), on May 6, 2014, at 4:30 o’clock P.M. The hearing will be held in the County Board Room at the Mercer County Courthouse, 100 SE 3rd Street, Aledo, Illinois. The purpose of the public hearing will be to receive public comments on the proposal by the County to enter into a Lease Agreement between the County and The Mercer County Public Building Commission, Mercer County, Illinois, the purpose of which Lease Agreement is to refinance a building addition and certain other improvements to the Mercer County Jail and for the payment of related costs and expenses. The payments required under the Lease Agreement will be a general obligation of the County. The principal amount of said Lease Agreement will not exceed $5,400,000. The largest yearly rental payment set forth in said Lease Agreement will not exceed $551,719. The maximum length of said Lease Agreement is seventeen (17) years.

1864 -- 150 years ago: Journeymen shoemakers of Rock Island struck for higher wages yesterday morning, asking 25 percent increases. Employers have acceded to their demand.
1889 -- 125 years ago: Lighting struck wires of the Merchants Electric Light Co. during a furious storm, and many Rock Island business houses were compelled to resort to gas as a means of illumination.
