Hall has sold his barber shop on 20th Street to Ray Barnett, one of his long time employees. 1938 — 75 years ago: Twenty thousand working men will be able to see the Kentucky Derby next year on the 50 cent bleacher seats being constructed at Churchill Downs. 1963 — 50 years ago: As the song goes, "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" for some 661 needy patients at East Moline State Hospital. The past four days has seen more than $1,100 contributed to the "Needy Patients Commissary Fund Drive," bringing the total thus far to $2,025.35. 1988 — 25 years ago: Scores of Rock Island firefighters, with assistance from Moline, battled a fierce blaze late this morning that sent smoke streaming from an aging downtown Rock Island building. The fire was at 314 20th St. which is leased by Ralph F. Schot, of Rock Island. The building was slated for revitalization as part of the Fort Armstrong Hotel project.
