The story takes place in a classroom where they have nothing but rainy weather day in and day out. One day the children are teasing a female classmate and they lock her in a closet. A minute or so later the rain stops, the sun comes out and for a couple of hours the flowers bloom, birds sing, wild-life flourishes and the children rejoice in the sunshine. When the rain returns and they come back in, the girl is discovered having missed her chance to share in the rare moment of beauty and fun due to the cruelty of her classmates.

It's a good lesson, and I'd love for my kids to see it.

Q: Mom (in her 80's) used to have these wire pants/slacks leg stretchers. They were in a set of two and were out of a thick, springy, galvanized, square- ish type wire about 1/4" thick and they had a slide/locking mechanism on each short span. Kinda rectangular in shape to fit down the leg, and you could pull the ends out tight to make a crease in the leg and this helped with the ironing later (if needed at all). They were generally inserted while the pants/slacks were still damp from the washer. Anyone seen these lately and if so, where can I get them? Mom's got destroyed two moves ago. Thanks!

Q: I go to Orion High School and last year they started drug testing. I thought that it was a good idea at first because it would keep people out of trouble and make our school look good, but now I am totally against it. The tests are only for those in sports and extracurricular activities, which is my main complaint. It's the people in sports that represent our school on the court but what about off the court? I don't think that it is fair that because we take part in activities and try to help and support our school that we are labeled and then told we have to take drug tests in order to participate. Everyone should have to take them. How should I voice my complaint and have people realize that I am doing it for equivalency and not because I am a "pot head"?

Q: The (Mississippi River) bridges inconvenience travelers seemingly so much of the time, with lane shutdowns for upkeep, etc. In the winter, they are hazardous at times with bad weather. They are expensive to maintain.

Throughout the world, tunnels are used to go under great bodies of water, as well as through countless miles of mountains. Why don't we seem to even be considering adding a tunnel, rather than another bridge?

Q: What happened to the large cow in front of the J&B meat-packing plant in Coal Valley?

Q: Further question regarding old Moline Public Hospital: There is a sanctuary off the southeast corner of the building that can only be reached from the inside of the building. My memory of this sanctuary is that it was given to the people of Moline by Mrs. Patricia Hewitt in celebration of the birth of her twins at Moline Public Hospital. She had the structure designed by an architect and paid for its entire construction.

The design is entirely non-sectarian and non-religious. It would be shameful of the people of Moline to allow this structure to be destroyed when the hospital is destroyed or remodeled. My question: Does anyone know or care what happens to this little edifice? It could be moved to another appropriate site.

Q: I am working on a transcription of my great-grandfather's 5-year diary, which he (Jacob Stewart) kept as a teenager in the l870s. While near Rock Island, Jacob wrote often about going to the Dosia, and once mentioned the mouth of the Dosia. Was this a river or stream? Did it succumb to flood control measures, no longer existing as a place name? Thank you, Dori
