Jackson resigns as Sherrard boys' basketball coach, adding to Tiger coaching vacancies

When the 2014-15 school year rolls around at Sherrard, there will be several new faces among the Tigers' head coaching ranks.
That list grew on Monday when Barry Jackson stepped down after three seasons as Sherrard's boys' basketball coach, in which he compiled a 23-57 record. Last August, he was the subject of a special school board meeting to determine his future, but Jackson retained his job at the time.
The brother of longtime area boys' and girls' hoops coach Brad Jackson and a longtime Tiger assistant under current Mercer County coach Brian Hutton, Jackson was a fixture for several regional-championship teams but could not replicate that magic in his three-year stint.
Jackson's resignation adds to a growing list of vacancies at Sherrard. Recently, longtime volleyball coach Lori Brown was not rehired after a largely successful 13-year tenure in which the Tiger spikers captured three regional titles and the 2006 Class A sectional crown and were a perennial conference title contender.
Also not returning in '14-15 will be football coach Brett Lee. The former Aledo star quarterback was not rehired after a four-year stint in which Sherrard posted four consecutive 4-5 seasons, narrowly missing the playoffs each time.
